US Attorney, Department of Justice Team Up to Protect Voting Rights

MONROE, La. (KNOE) – The United States Attorney has teamed up with the Department of Justice’s National Election Day Program to prevent voter fraud and protect voting rights in the Nov. 5 election.

Officials will oversee how districts handle Election Day complaints about voting rights concerns, threats of violence against election officials or election staff and voter fraud.

In a press release, United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown said in part: “Every citizen must be able to vote without interference or discrimination and have that vote counted in a fair and free election. Similarly, election officials and staff must be able to serve without being subjected to unlawful threats of violence. The Department of Justice will always work tirelessly to protect the integrity of the election process.”

Federal law protects voters’ rights and ensures they can vote without interference.

The FBI will also have special agents in every field office across the country to handle voter fraud and other complaints on Election Day.

The Monroe FBI office can be reached at (318) 387-0773. For more information on FBI offices, click Here.

Complaints about possible violations of federal voting rights laws can be filed directly with the Division for Civil Rights in Washington, DC online or by phone at (800) 253-3931.

In the event of a crime or other emergency, call 911.
