Two brave young men turn the tables on the robbers

Two young men successfully defended themselves against two alleged robbers who tried to steal their mobile phones at knifepoint on Saturday in The Willows, east of Pretoria.

Despite being threatened with a knife, the two men remained standing, refusing to give up their belongings and fighting the suspects until various security guards came to their aid.

The two suspects were arrested for robbery with a dangerous weapon.

According to Alpha Security Forum (ASF)the two men were attacked on their way home.

“The two were heading to the apartments at The Willows and were attacked with a knife by the two criminals,” said Aris Ruyter of the ASF.

Ruyter said the victims fought back.

“While fighting the robbers, Quattro’s Romeo 11 Unit approached and chased the suspects until they were caught at the entrance to Hoërskool Die Wilgers, where the unit called for backup.”

Ruyter said that when the various security forums arrived, the Romeo 11 unit and the two victims cornered the suspects and guarded them until police arrived.

“Comsafe Forum arrived and both suspects were searched, with various questionable items discovered and handed over to the police.”

Ruyter said both victims were treated at the scene for injuries sustained while defending themselves and later taken to the hospital for tetanus shots.

He added that while he was waiting for the police to arrive, it was confirmed that the two suspects were the same people who assaulted and robbed the school in Oulandsloop Park.

“A suspect has been positively identified by two of the victims of Friday’s assault and robbery incident.”

He said the suspects were arrested and taken to Garsfontein SAPS.

“Even though these suspects have been positively identified in connection with previous robberies and assaults in the area, we ask that each person report suspicious activity to their security company, local law enforcement or the ASF,” Ruyter said.

He added that people must be aware of the environment.

“Parents also need to teach their children about the dangers of walking alone on the streets.”

Ruyter added that the bravery of the two victims not only prevented the robbery, but also sent a strong message to criminals in the area that they will not be tolerated.

He expressed his gratitude to Quattro, ASF members, Comsafe, Kabod, TLG, Platinum security, SDS, SAPS Garsfontein, Brinant, Vemru and Pretoria Traffic.

Police spokesman Adjutant Johan van Dyk confirmed the arrest.

“On Saturday, two men were arrested for robbery with a weapon other than a firearm.”

Van Dyk said the case is still under investigation and the suspects will appear in court soon.
