Mike Williamson: Carlisle United boss wants answers after AFC Wimbledon defeat

Williamson has picked up four points from his five league games since being appointed as Paul Simpson’s permanent successor.

Brought in to implement a positive style and push the Cumbrians up the league, he admitted the baggage of last season’s bottom of League One finish with 30 defeats is proving difficult to shake off.

They have already lost eight times in the league this season and home form has been a particular problem, with Carlisle losing 16 of their last 18 games at Brunton Park in all competitions.

As a result, they are struggling to match the work being carried out at the club off the pitch under the ownership of the Piataks following their takeover last November.

“The owner has been quite clear with his goals and intentions for the club,” Williamson said.

“You can definitely see that off the field where there are big areas that are improving. We have to make sure we match that tenacity to improve everything.

“It starts with our standards and our habits, but it’s more complex to go on the pitch, as the boys are human beings, as we are in a bad position in the league, and from the back of the past, it is not so easy to do apart.”
