RAF chairman reveals duplicate payments of over R1 billion; SA Not surprising

CAPE TOWN, WESTERN CAPE – Road Accident Fund CEO Lorraine Francoise has revealed that RAF 1.2 billion worth of duplicate payments were uncovered by the RAF.

RAF indented for duplicate payments

The RAF appeared before the Permanent Commission of Public Accounts to report on the financial performance of the State Fund. Francoise said they are in agreement with the Special Investigation Unit and have recovered R1.2 billion in duplicate payments.

SCOPA is concerned about the RAF

SCOPA expressed concern about the RAF’s financial performance over the past three financial years. The committee said the outcome of the RAF reverse audit was partly because RAF refused to use accounting practices as prescribed by the Public Financial Management Act.

South Africans are not happy

Facebook netizens were disappointed with the RAF and some called for severe action.

Anele Anale Sihange said:

“None of these government institutions have any credibility anymore. They are all equally crooked.”

“Anything from the ANC is rotten. Even those who say they are protecting the real ANC are wasting their time.”

The foreigners said more than 1 billion rand

In another article, News in brief reported that the RAF owed foreigners R1.5 billion in accident claims.

The fund paid 63,015 claims out of nearly 80,000, with some going to foreigners.
