The elite manager “rejected the offer” for two reasons; The “bombshell” reveals that Tuchel was not the first choice

The FA reportedly had an “offer rejected” by Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, who “refused” to become England’s permanent manager.

The FA has been looking for a new permanent England manager since Gareth Southgate quit after the 2-1 defeat by Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

Over the past two international breaks, Lee Carsley has been England’s caretaker boss as he has stepped up from the Under-21s to lead the side in the UEFA Nations League.

Carsley emerged as the favorite for the job after England won their first two group games, but a number of potential alternatives have been linked with the role.

Pep Guardiola was the FA’s “dream” targetbut former coach of Chelsea and Bayern Munich Thomas Tuchel he got the job as he was appointed earlier this week.

As mentioned, Guardiola was an alternative and they were also linked with Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe.

Despite this, Alan Shearer has heard that the FA did not contact the Newcastle boss. This is while Gary Lineker has made a surprising claim about Ancelotti.

“It’s happened so quickly, hasn’t it? I mean we said and you said the other day, maybe there’s a reason why Lee Carsley was ruled out because that’s pretty much what he did,” Shearer told The podcast Rest is Football.

“Maybe you were right that he knew something we didn’t.

“I really hope they’ve spoken to England managers. They told me they didn’t speak to Eddie Howe or didn’t hear from him at all. They told me reliably, which is a big surprise to me considering that would be the outstanding English candidate.”

Lineker added: “Apparently it has been confirmed that they contacted Pep Guardiola in the summer. And I also understand that they spoke to Carlo Ancelotti.”

A report in Spain has a “bombshell” report about Ancelotti, who reportedly “refused to coach England” and “turned down an offer” from the FA.

This indicates that Tuchel was not England’s first choice as the FA considered Ancelotti to be “one of the ideal candidates”.

Ancelotti is said to “remain committed to the ambitious project of Real Madrid”. This stance and “the opportunity to continue fighting for the major European titles were decisive in his decision to turn down the role”.

“Ancelotti remains focused on his work with Real Madrid, where he looks to extend his legacy with further trophies and continue at the helm of one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“The England manager’s job could have brought a new challenge to the Italian’s career, but his decision to stay at Madrid underlines his commitment to the club, making it clear he still has a lot to offer at the Santiago Bernabéu.

“A decision that has surprised many, as Ancelotti has always shown his intention to coach a national team.”
