Trump calls for CBS to lose broadcast license amid ’60 Minutes’ controversy: ‘UNPRECEDENTED SCANDAL!’

Former President Trump took aim at CBS News over the ongoing controversy over “60 Minutes” editing comments made by Vice President Kamala Harris for its prime-time election special.

“Giant fake news scam by CBS and 60 Minutes,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Thursday. “HER ACTUAL ANSWER WAS CRAZY, OR STUPID, SO THEY REPLACED IT WITH ANOTHER ANSWER TO SAVE IT OR AT LEAST MAKE IT LOOK BETTER. A FAKE NEWS SCAM, which is totally illegal” .

“TAKE YOUR LICENSE CBS,” he continued. “Election interference. She is an idiot, and the fake news media wants to cover up that fact. An unprecedented scandal!!! The Democrats made them do this and should they be forced to concede the election?¡ WOW!”

Trump further criticized the liberal network during a speech later in the day at the Detroit Economic Club.

“The other big news is the fraud committed by ’60 Minutes’ and CBS along with the Democratic Party, working together with them, which will become the biggest scandal in the history of broadcasting, I predict,” Trump said .

FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel issued a statement denouncing Trump’s call to revoke CBS’ broadcast license.

“While the repeated attacks on the former president’s broadcasters may now be familiar, these threats to free speech are serious and should not be ignored,” Rosenworcel wrote. “As I’ve said before, the First Amendment is a cornerstone of our democracy. The FCC will not revoke or revoke broadcasters’ licenses simply because a political candidate disagrees with or doesn’t like the content or coverage.”

CBS News did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

CBS News has been plagued by multiple controversies in the weeks leading up to the 2024 election.

The controversy stems from an exchange Harris had with “60 Minutes” correspondent Bill Whitaker about the Biden administration’s relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which was released in full in a preview clip that went air Sunday on “Face The Nation” but that was edited out for the primetime special.

Conservatives mocked Harris for offering a lengthy “word salad” when asked why Netanyahu appeared not to be listening to the US. However, the vice president’s lengthy response did not make the version that aired Monday night and a shorter one. , a more focused response to the same question was shown.

“Well, Bill, the work that we’ve done has resulted in a series of moves in this region by Israel that were very much motivated by, or a result of, many things, including our advocacy of what needs to happen in region, Harris responded to the “Face the Nation” version.

“60 Minutes” released two separate editions of an exchange CBS News correspondent Bill Whitaker had with Vice President Kamala Harris about the Biden administration’s relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Interviews are sometimes edited to save time, but when CBS aired the interview Monday night, Harris had a different answer to the same question.

“We will not stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need to end this war,” Harris said.

Critics have accused CBS News of helping the Harris campaign by cleaning up his messy response for the network’s prime-time audience.

The Harris campaign insists it had nothing to do with the edit, with an aide telling Fox News Digital, “We don’t control CBS’s production decisions and we ask questions of CBS.”
