Hottest Halloween costumes in your area: Google Frightgeist reveals 2024 trends

If you’re trying to avoid wearing the same Halloween costume as everyone else, or if you’d rather blend in with the crowd, Google’s new Frightgeist page has you covered.

Google Trends analyzed the most popular Halloween costumes in 2024, revealing the most popular trends both nationally and in your area. Google’s lists compare search interest in 2024 to search interest in 2023, meaning the dresses on the list showed the biggest increase in searches since last year. It doesn’t necessarily mean that they are the most sought after dresses in general.

From ideas inspired by “Beetlejuice” to Raygun, the Paris Olympics breakdancer, to a Chipotle burrito, this year’s top Google outfit trends run the gamut of pop culture.

According to the National Retail Federation, total expenditure adult costume spending is expected to reach $1.8 billion this year, while children’s costume spending is expected to reach $1.3 billion. Interest in pet costumes also remains high, with pet owners expected to spend about $700 million to dress up their pets.
