Boston Celtics legend Derrick Rose’s polarizing statement goes viral

Derrick Rose is a Chicago Bulls legend and one of the most popular players in modern NBA history. However, despite all his fandom, Rose never achieved the glory of winning an NBA championship for the city where he grew up. Regardless, Boston Celtics legend Kevin Garnett thinks Rose should still have his own statue in the city.

During an episode of The Ticket & The Truth PodcastGarnett made an impassioned plea to the Chicago Bulls to build a statue of Derrick Rose.

“A D-Rose statue in Chicago and it doesn’t have to be on Mike’s side. Mike must have his own shit**. Bro, to grow up in Chicago, he incorporated with the Bulls as soon as he came to birth,” Garnett said. “You get drafted by the Bulls — that’s magic. I’ve never seen that. Then you win the MVP?! Bro, you’re the people’s champion. That’s the ultimate fantasy for every kid who plays in the draft, who’s playing in the alley.”

Garnett’s comments sparked a massive conversation online, garnering more than 240,000 views and 6,500 likes. While many agree with Garnett’s claims, many others disagree, arguing that Rose has never won a championship for the city. Some think Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman deserve statues before Rose.

Garnett was a little too enthusiastic about his claim, claiming that four or five million would come to the statue ceremony.

“When they untie it, there’s going to be about four million or five million people on the streets,” Garnett said.
