George López reveals that he is retiring from stand-up

EXCLUSIVE: George López plans to leave the stage standing.

Lopez revealed that he will retire from stand-up comedy after the release of his upcoming special on Amazon Prime Video.

Speaking to Tamron Hall on her syndicated talk show, Lopez said: “It’s the last one. I’ve put the American people through enough of my shit. It feels like the right time; it’s been the only thing that hasn’t “He’s never left a lifetime and it’s a wonderful place to leave it at this particular time.”

Lopez added that she wanted to spend more time with her daughter Mayan Lopez, who stars alongside the NBC comedy Lopez vs Lopez, which is in its third season. “I love the show,” he added.

It comes after Deadline revealed that Lopez filmed a new hour-long special as part of his “ALLLRIIIIGHHTTT! Comedy Tour. Filmed at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on September 27-28, it is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Travieso Productions

Lopez has released a number of specials over the years, including most recently on Netflix with We’ll do it in half in 2020. It previously had four HBO specials The Wall (2017), It’s not me, it’s you (2012), Tall, dark and chicano (2009), i Mexican from America (2007) as well as the acclaimed comedy concert Why are you crying? by Showtime.

Lopez has previously hinted at retiring from the stand-up circuit while promoting the golf movie Walking with Herb in 2021.

Lopez vs. Lopez returns to NBC on October 18. The second season saw Mayan and the Lopez family go through big changes as George took his first step into sobriety. It stars George Lopez and Mayan Lopez alongside Selenis Leyva, Matt Shively, Brice Gonzalez and Al Madrigal with Vicki Lawrence, Francia Raisa, Rizwan Manji, Annie Gonzalez and Adam Irigoyen guest stars for the third season.

Co-created by Debby Wolfe, executive producer along with Bruce Helford, George Lopez, Michael Rotenberg and Katie Newman, the series is produced by Universal Television, in association with Mohawk Productions, Travieso Productions, Mi Vida Loba and 3 Arts.

Tamron Room is currently in its sixth season. The series is produced and distributed by Disney Entertainment Distribution and is first-run on ABC-owned television stations in the United States and Canada. Lopez and her daughter will be on the show on October 24.
