Omar optimistic about early restoration of status in JK – ThePrint – PTIFeed

Srinagar, Oct 16 (PTI) Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday expressed optimism that Jammu and Kashmir will not remain a Union Territory for long and will regain full statehood soon. Hours before being sworn in, the National Conference leader told PTI Videos that all the ministerial vacancies would not be filled at once but would be filled from now on as “we are in talks with the Congress and also from my own team.” On former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressing his willingness to share his experience with him in governing a ‘middle-state’ like Delhi, Abdullah said, “I have many lessons to learn. I learned many lessons in six years, I made some mistakes and I intend not to repeat those mistakes again because only a fool repeats the same mistakes over and over again”.

“I definitely don’t. But nobody’s perfect, so every day is an opportunity to learn. So yes, you’re going to learn from everyone who has experience running this country. But I make the point again. I honestly believe that we won’t UT for a long time. So this so-called half-state is a very temporary phase and soon we will be a full state,” he said.

Abdullah took over as Chief Minister of JK after the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of the erstwhile state into two Union Territories. He had earlier ruled the erstwhile state from 2008 to 2014. Terming Jammu and Kashmir’s Union Territory status as unfortunate, he said, “I have always maintained that our status as a UT is temporary. We have commitments from the Govt. of India, especially from the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and others that the state will be restored in JK and we hope that this will happen as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, he said his government has a responsibility to the people.

“We have a mandate from the people to get to work solving their problems and that’s what we want to do from day one,” he said.

Abdullah also said that he is generally a positive person, which does not mean that “I am not apprehensive.

“Obviously there is a lot of nervousness, but I have a huge faith in the almighty and he will show the way and I will do the best I can,” he added. PTI ZEH TAS TAS DV DV
