Hellstrom recommends starting by making sure your hair is dry or slightly damp, depending on the type of hot brush you’re using. “Most hot brushes are designed to be used on dry or 80 percent dry hair,” he says. “If your hair is too wet, it won’t style effectively.” Next, section the hair to make styling manageable and divide the hair into small sections. “This will help the hot brush glide easily and distribute the heat evenly,” advises Hellstrom.

Then apply heat protection. “Before starting to use the tool, always apply heat protection to prevent damage from high temperatures. Adjust the heat setting on the tool (if possible) and choose a temperature that suits your hair type,” he continues.

Hellstrom then recommends gliding the hot brush through the hair from root to tip. “When using, make sure you don’t rush the process, let the heat penetrate and smooth the strands,” he says. “You can use the hot brush to straighten hair or add waves by twisting the brush at the ends. Secure the curl with a bobby pin and let it cool for long-lasting curls.”
