Domestic explosion in Haymarket – Fredericksburg Free Press

Prince William Fire and Rescue says a house exploded in Haymarket Tuesday evening while firefighters were on the scene responding to a gas leak.

Officials say firefighters responded to the 5900 block of Colby Hunt Court around 4:17 pm for a gas leak. Around 5:36 p.m., firefighters notified the department that the house had exploded.

Firefighters had evacuated the house before the explosion. Initial reports indicate that an underground contractor struck a natural gas line. Prince William Fire and Rescue said it is currently unclear what caused the explosion.

Nearby homes were allowed to reoccupy after electrical service was restored. A total of eight homes in the vicinity will have their natural gas service interrupted for up to 2 days. Several vehicles were also damaged by the flying debris.
