Burglar who thought he could escape CCTV by crawling on all fours has been jailed

A thief who crawled on all fours towards avoid CCTV during a theft he was imprisoned for four years. Shamsul Islam, 40, stole thousands of dollars in cash and goods from seven establishments by crawling on his hands and knees.

Despite his best efforts to hide his identityhe was caught after leaving behind footprints and fingerprints, he reports Daily Mail.

After being caught on CCTV during a burglary in Bury, Greater Manchester, Islam’s downfall came when a restaurant owner, alerted to the break-in by CCTV linked to his phone, saw him in action.

In his haste to flee, Islam injured himself on a piece of glass, leaving behind a trail of blood police used to identify it.

Islam, described by police as a “career criminal”, began his killing spree in August. Homeless, he was linked to various crimes through two disposable e-cigarettes found in a stolen coat.

His spree started on August 19 in Heathfield Road in Bury where he stole a coat from a car. At around 3am on August 28, he entered a pub in Whitefield by smashing a ground floor window but left empty-handed.

An hour after breaking into a Whitefield pub on August 28, Islam targeted another pub on Bury New Road, stealing £200 ($258) from the house.

On September 1 he broke the window of a hair and beauty salon on Radcliffe New Road while the owner was inside. When confronted by the tenant above, he apologized and ran away.

Just two days later, on September 3, Islam returned to the bar he had previously burgled in Whitefield, crawling on his belly to avoid CCTV, but still managed to steal £200 from the house.

The following day, he entered a restaurant on Bury New Road at 11pm, smashed the window and stole £200 and a work mobile phone worth £1,200, while leaving footprints and fingerprints behind.

His crime spree ended when he walked into a restaurant in Sefton Street, Whitefield, alerting the owner via CCTV linked to his phone. The owner watched as Islam crawled across the bar to get to the house.

Disturbed by the intruder alarm, Islam quickly fled, breaking wine glasses and leaving a small trail of blood behind as he exited through the broken window.

This evidence led to his arrest, ending his burglary in Bury.

He was found guilty of theft at Minshull Street Crown Court last week and jailed for four years.

PC William Loughran, of Greater Manchester Police, said after the sentencing: “Islam had absolutely no regard as he entered small businesses in the Whitefield area of ​​Bury and stole from owners who were rightly shocked when they saw Islam robbing their livelihood.

“Islam is a career criminal who had absolutely no right to so brazenly enter the premises and take what is not his.

“I would like to thank the victims and everyone in the force who played a part in Islam’s arrest and those involved in this investigation which brought Islam to justice, including our crime scene investigators who were able to prove he was responsible. for this crime wave.”
