Oilers fans react to rough start to season

The Oilers are 0-3, while the Flames are 3-0. It’s not the start to the season Oilers fans were looking for, but fans and analysts say they still have hope.

“They work really hard for their game, and I think they’re going to win a game,” said one Edmontonian.

Oilers fans in downtown Edmonton are staying positive ahead of Tuesday’s game day. The team has lost its first three games of the season, a far cry from a monumental comeback in the Stanley Cup Final just a few months ago.

And to make matters worse, our southern rivals have won the first three.

“It’s going to be an up and down season, Calgary will have its moments, and so will the Oilers.”

While expectations for the team are high, says one Edmonton sportswriter who follows the team, give it some time.

“I know the fan base wants this team out of the gate hot, but right now this is a team that’s going to fix things,” Avry’s Sports Show host Avry Lewis-McDougall explained.

And how quickly we forget, things could always get worse and then better. Just look at last year.

“Team started 2-9-1, cost Jay Woodcroft his job. Kris Knoblauch comes in. Things calm down a little bit. It’s been a bit of a trend these last few years for the Oilers to not come out hot for the door”.
