The Seneca County Jail Program raises turkeys for community donations

The Seneca County Jail recently completed its Inmate Work Program, successfully raising and donating 31 turkeys to local families and organizations in need before Thanksgiving.

Through this initiative, incarcerated individuals participated in raising turkeys from chicks to mature birds, gaining hands-on experience in animal care while supporting their community. At the end of the program, the turkeys were processed and donated to several local organizations, bringing Thanksgiving meals within reach of more residents.

This year’s donations included eight turkeys to Seneca County House of Concern, five turkeys each to South Seneca Central School, Romulus Central School and Mynderse Academy for distribution to families, and five turkeys to Seneca Community Church. Three more turkeys will be served at the jail for staff and inmates.

The program not only encourages skills and responsibility among participants, but also strengthens community connections, making the holiday season a little brighter for local families.
