Elon Musk tells Keir Starmer to ‘leave farmers alone’ over new tax | Policy | News

Elon Musk has shared his thoughts on the Autumn Budget and blasted Keir Starmer over changes to inheritance tax on UK family farms.

Many farmers have expressed anger at the changes that will affect them when they pass their farms on to future generations.

Elon Musk criticized the government’s controversial X proposal while responding to a post shared by another user.

The head of Tesla and SpaceX has warned that the new tax change will “kill family farming in the UK”, reports The Times.

Musk wrote: “We should leave the farmers alone. (We owe) the farmers a huge debt of gratitude for putting the food on our tables!”

This is not the first time Keir Starmer faced criticism from Elon Musk. Over the summer, Musk blasted the government for punishing people participating in the UK riots through online posts.

Musk called the prime minister a “two-tiered Keir” and at the time made comments suggesting the government would rather punish right-wing groups than counter-protesters in the summer riots.

On X, Musk has a following of 202.8 million people, so his posts have a huge reach.

The new tax on farmers has already been dubbed the “tractor tax” and some farmers claim they could be forced to sell their farms as a result of the new rules.

Farmers will be able to claim 100% tax relief on the first million pounds of their wealth, with assets beyond that subject to 20% inheritance tax.

Amid the concerns, a Downing Street spokeswoman said No 10 was committed to supporting farmers and only a quarter of properties were expected to be affected by the changes, according to The Times.

Farmers’ protest expected in London – The National Farmers’ Union has put forward plans for a huge rally outside Parliament in Westminster on November 19.

Some notable TV personalities such as Kirstie Allsopp and Jeremy Clarkson have shared their anger at the new rules.

Posting on X, Clarkson said: “Rachel Reeves. Basically, I dare not comment. We have a new government. It turns out to be hopeless.”

Clarkson also urged his followers not to “give up hope” and hope for change at the next general election, writing: “Farmers. I know you’ve been overwhelmed today. But please don’t despair.

“Take care of yourselves for five short years and this shower will disappear.”
