Garrett Wilson Says Jets ‘Better Than We Played’

As the Jets look to snap a five-game skid, WR Garrett Wilson delivered two spectacular one-handed touchdown catches that sparked the Green & White’s 21-13 win over the Houston Texans at MetLife Stadium , Thursday evening.

“We needed and really wanted to get in the win column,” Wilson said. “Losing so many games in a row, it felt exactly how you would expect it to feel. We are better than we played and tonight was the time to prove it. It’s a good win because it makes us start what we’ve been preaching and talking about in the unit.”

The Jets were held scoreless in the first half as Wilson was limited to 2 receptions for 9 yards. On the first drive of the second half, he broke the seal, hauling in a 21-yard touchdown. The PAT tied it, 7-7.

On second-and-12 from Houston’s 21-yard line, QB Aaron Rodgers, who ran against the pressure, put the ball in front of Wilson and he scooped it up with one hand at the 15-yard line before punting it . end zone.

“It was a shooting route against man coverage,” Wilson said. “And even though I was crawling down the court, Aaron threw it to me on the upright at the last second. He threw a great ball to get around it and I went up and made a play and then I came back and there was nobody. in front of me it worked in my favor”.

Rodgers completed 4 of 5 passes for 11 plays, 70 yards, including 2 to Wilson for 31 yards.

“We went into halftime and recognized that there was going to be some adversity,” Wilson said. “And the adversity was that we had a scoreless first half like that. I felt like we were playing good football, but nothing was going our way. In the second half we found a way.”

On the Jets’ next offensive possession, following a Houston field goal that gave the Texans a 10-7 lead, Wilson topped his earlier punt. On third-and-19 from the Texans’ 26-yard line, Rodgers dropped back and threw a pass to Wilson, who was heading for the end zone. Wilson jumped up and scooped the ball up with his right hand and down near the back line of the end zone.
