We recently brought you news of a new Amazon Kindle in the works , said to be released “in a few days,” and now it looks like an updated Kindle Paperwhite will join the ranks as well.

Images of a purported new Paperwhite model have been released online, showing the new packaging and some key specs. If true, it could be an instant contender to be one of the best Kindles yet.

Redditor gavan820 found the photos of the 12th generation e-reader on eBay, of all places. They claim that a retailer was selling it and believe it to be a genuine product.

Given that we’ve heard rumors of a new Paperwhite ourselves, we also think it’s likely a real product. And while Amazon has yet to comment and confirm, there’s plenty of chatter suggesting we’ll know for sure soon, maybe even tomorrow, October 16.

As for today’s leak, the biggest update to the latest Kindle Paperwhite is just that: it’s going to be bigger. Well, it will have a bigger screen anyway.

The leaked packaging includes a 7-inch “glare-free” E Ink display. The current model, which was launched three years ago, has a 6.8-inch screen.

As for the rest of the specs, it looks like not much else will change. The e-book device will continue with adjustable warm light and IPX8 waterproofing, so it can be submerged up to 2 meters for 60 minutes.

There will also be “weeks of battery life”, which is as non-specific as it gets but par for the course for e-readers.

We don’t have any indication of pricing yet, but you can tell from the packaging that Amazon is taking sustainability seriously. We’ve heard before that the standard new Kindle will come in a package made of 98% wood fiber, and that seems to be the case here as well. Therefore, it will be fully recyclable.

Hopefully we’ll know for sure very soon as the speculated release is imminent. You’ll be able to see all the confirmed details right here on T3 as soon as they’re announced.
