Man extradited to Mcduffie County one year after armed robbery incident

DEARING, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A suspect has been extradited to McDuffie County in connection with a 2023 armed robbery and aggravated assault, according to the sheriff’s office.

Corderro Latron Morton, 34, was booked into the McDuffie County Jail Wednesday, according to jail bookings.

On May 16, deputies responded to a victim with a gunshot wound to the left leg, who was transported to Doctors Hospital.

Once on scene, deputies made contact with the victim, who told them he had been referred by the suspect to Facebook Marketplace to purchase his dirt bike, according to the incident report.

The victim told deputies the suspect was dropped off by another unknown person when he came to buy a bike.

Deputies say the suspect then pulled a gun on the victim and shot him. The incident report says the victim allegedly had he pulled back and threw his weapon at the suspect.

According to the incident report, the victim took cover while the suspect continued to shoot at him before riding off on the dirt bike toward Augusta Road.

Deputies say both the victim’s and the suspect’s guns were found outside the house.

The report states that deputies were then called to assist in a motorcycle chase with the suspect involved in the incident.

According to the incident report, Morton allegedly attempted to flee from deputies, nearly hitting several other cars as he continued east on Augusta Highway into Columbia County.

Deputies say they notified Columbia County dispatch to assist.

While on Augusta Highway, officials say the dirt bike stopped working. Morton allegedly set the bicycle down in front of a resident on Gordon Highway and fled on foot behind the residence into the woods.

Officials say they lost sight of Morton in the woods and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office set up a perimeter to locate the suspect.

According to the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office, Morton was in jail for another agency and was transported from Macon State Prison.

Morton is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, hijacking a motor vehicle and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission or attempt to commit certain crimes, according to jail bookings.

Records show Morton is being held at the McDuffie County Jail. His link was refused.
