Eagles fan says he instigated Nick Sirianni sideline yelling incident

Despite the Philadelphia Eagles’ victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, the dominant story has focused on coach Nick Siranni: his heated exchange with fans late in the game and whether he’s fit to coach in the NFL with this type of the behavior

While Sirianni apologized Monday: “I’m sorry and I’m disappointed in how my energy was directed,” there have been few clues as to what prompted the outburst. That is, apparently, until now.

On the Eagles subreddit, a fan, “checking_your_math,” who said his name was “Kevin de Warminster” in the 94 WIP clarified the incident, saying he was the one who incited the ruckus at the end of the game . But then it didn’t start.

“Checking_your_math” provided what he said was his ticket stub at the bottom of his post; said he attended the Eagles vs. Browns and sat in section 138, row 2 and seat 4, the area that would be on the sidelines for the Eagles. The post has over 500 comments and over 3,400 upvotes.

According to “checking_your_math,” the seeds were planted early in the game by comments he made about running back Saquon Barkley getting the ball and Sirianni revisited them later. Here’s the “checking_your_math’s” version, which was posted Monday afternoon:

I was hoping to get to this sooner, but it didn’t happen. I’m the fan that Sirianni’s “shout out” was directed at at the end of the game. I hope to provide some context, because it was really great!

There I was in section 138, row 2, seat 4. The first play of the game was a 5 yard run by Barkley. 2nd and 5, pass incomplete. 3rd and 5, pass incomplete. 4th and 5th, period. During Brown’s next drive (sic), there was a TV timeout due to an injury. It was during that time that I expressed my concerns to (offensive coordinator) Kellen (Moore) and Nick.

I started yelling, “If your star running back gets 5 yards on first down, you give it to him again! RUN. THE. BALL. RUN. THE. BALL.” I had something else to say, but you get the idea.

Nick turned around, gave me a reassuring wave and said something like “We’ll do it, don’t worry. I’m here!”

Fast forward to the end of the game. Nick walked over to this area and started saying, “I told you we were going to run away! I told you so!” Admittedly, that’s paraphrasing because I was pretty pleased at this point. The point is that he was not unjustified (sic), nor did he see it as aggressive. Rather, I saw it as him making a point to let me know he followed through.

I wish I could provide this context elsewhere as well, but I felt this was at least a good place to start.

In the comments, the start of “checking_your_math’s” story was confirmed by another Reddit user/fan, “PrettyCoolGirl1,” who said, “Wow, that’s wild. We were in the dry 138 row 3 seats 3- 6. It can be verified that the first interaction happened and was funny, unfortunately I was distracted at the end of the game and did not see Nick yell at you at the end of the game, although of course I saw the clips. … I didn’t realize it was in our section.”

“Checking_your_math” replied to this comment and said that he wouldn’t have noticed Sirianni approaching him if it wasn’t for his brother-in-law telling him. The fan said he was “respectfully” being a (expletive) because he “had a lot to say” when another Reddit user said he heard about him running his mouth.

“Checking_your_math” said he would try to tell the story to 94WIP and would love to give other outlets the full story.

“I hate how much he’s being dragged honestly,” the fan wrote. “I tweeted first, he acknowledged it, he came and came back, I acknowledged it and I loved it!”
