Boston’s new women’s soccer franchise unveils official name, logo

Coming in 2026: BOS Nation Football Club.

Boston’s upcoming expansion team in the National Women’s Soccer League unveiled its new name and logo on Tuesday.

Where does the name come from? “BOS Nation” is an anagram for “Bostonian,” team controlling owner Jennifer Epstein explained during the announcement on “CBS Mornings.”

“This was very intentional because this team’s name is fan-focused, fans-first, and our new identity is made up of the diverse communities that live in our strong city and have a love – or soon will they will have the most beautiful game in the world,” he said.

The announcement is the latest step forward for Boston’s return to the NWSL in 2026. The city has been without an NWSL franchise since the Boston Breakers folded in early 2018.

The NWSL has grown steadily in recent seasons. The league went from 12 teams to 14 this year with the addition of Utah Royals FC and Bay FC. BOS Nation FC will become the 15th team in the league, under the ownership of Boston Unity Soccer Partners, led by Epstein.

“Great news America, right? Boston has another sports team,” Epstein said. “Maybe great news for some and less for others.”

The team’s investors include actor and producer Elizabeth Banks, a native of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Banks told CBS that with the rise of women’s sports, she felt BOS Nation represented the perfect opportunity to get involved.

“We’ve always focused on underrepresented voices, putting women at the center of stories, and this felt like an extension of that in my business realm and just my legacy in general,” Banks said. “It was something I could leave behind for my kids, my family, and I look forward to BOS Nation being an amazing team for generations to enjoy, and I believe the NWSL will be our next big league in America.”

BOS Nation is set to play its games as White Stadium at Boston’s Franklin Park. The stadium is slated to undergo a $30 million renovation with the support of Boston Unity ownership group.
