US election: Kamala Harris’s war effort in Ukraine recognized on list of influential women in security

Kamala Harris has been recognized as the most influential woman in international security in a prestigious new set of rankings that will erase her credentials on the world stage just days before America goes to the polls.

The Democratic presidential nominee ranked first for his work on “Safeguarding Critical Infrastructure and Vulnerable Populations,” according to a panel of security experts assembled by National Security News.

Harris ranked above her political ally, the former Republican Representative Liz Cheneywhich ranked fourth on the inaugural list.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was recognized for “Forging diplomatic ties to strengthen collective defence” alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The applause will be welcomed by the Harris campaign, which has struggled at times to convince voters that she is the best candidate to represent the US on the world stage.

A Recent poll of swing state voters by the Institute for Global Affairs found that Trump was the most trusted candidate to fight China, with 58 percent believing he would “respond effectively if China attacks Taiwan,” compared to just 42 percent for the vice president.

When asked who would pursue a foreign policy “that benefits people like you,” 53 percent chose the former president over Harris (47 percent).

About 58% thought Trump was more likely than Harris (41%) to end the war Ukraine.

However, Harris loud support for Volodymyr Zelensky and his country’s battle against Vladimir Putin’s invasion won the recognition of security experts.

Sean Rayment, editor of National Security News, said Newsweek: “Her relentless diplomacy with allies around the globe has maintained a united front in support of Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression.

“Vice President Harris also showed that he clearly understands the reality of US military deterrence and vowed to preserve the US military’s status as the world’s most ‘lethal’ force.”

Harris’ work as a deputy district attorney in Oakland, California and as state attorney general, where he secured large settlements against mortgage lenders, were highlighted as examples of protecting infrastructure and vulnerable communities.

Newsweek contacted the White House by email for comment.

As vice president, Harris was involved with several of the president Joe Bidenthe most important foreign policy and national security decisions. Biden previously said Harris was the “last person in the room” during the 2021 evacuation from Afghanistan.

Israel’s war with Hamas made foreign policy a difficult issue to navigate this election for the Harris campaign. Many Arab American voters, who have large communities in swing states like Michigan, have been frustrated by the Biden administration’s continued support for Israel.

The former president Donald Trump he focused on his own foreign policy during the election, arguing that no new wars had been started while he was president. He also claimed that Putin would not have invaded Ukraine if he was in the White House.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the war in Gaza were the defining foreign policy issues of the election.

The Biden administration has also warned that Russian meddling in the US election could lead to an increase in misinformation before election day.

attorney general Merrick Garland said Russian state media network RT spent nearly $10 million to “fund and direct a Tennessee company to publish and broadcast content deemed favorable to the Russian government.”
