MANISTIQUE — Voters in Schoolcraft County will vote in a number of races and a countywide millage proposition. Here’s what’s on the ballot:

SCHOOL TRANSIT

MILAGE AUTHORITY

Residents of Schoolcraft County will be required to renew and levy annually in an amount not to exceed 0.5841 mills – approximately $0.58 for each $1,000 of taxable value against all properties within the Schoolcraft Transit Authority boundaries for for a period of four years, 2024-2027, inclusive, to provide funds for all purposes of the public transportation authority permitted by law.

The proposal is a renewal of the millage rate that expired in 2023.

If approved and levied in full, the millage will raise approximately $250,000 in the first calendar year. A portion of the revenue collected may be subject to capture by the Manistique Center Development Authority.

TAHQUAMENON AREA SCHOOLS OPERATING MILJ

Seney Township residents will be required to renew the school of 17.8939 mills (about $17.89 for every $1,000 of taxable value) and also raise 0.1061 mills (about 10 cents for every 1,000 USD of taxable value) for a total of USD 1118. mills ($18 per $1,000 of taxable value) for a four-year period, 2026 to 2029, inclusive, to provide funds for operating purposes.

The millage is a renewal of a millage that will expire with the 2025 levy and reinstatement of millage lost as a result of the reduction imposed by “Headley” the 1963 amendment to the Michigan Constitution.
