Ravan Dahan or “nuclear test”? Panic after a huge fire during the burning of Ravan’s effigy

An effigy of demon king Ravan exploded with a powerful explosion during a Dussehra event on Saturday, drawing comparisons to a “nuclear test”. The dramatic moment captured on video quickly went viral on social media.

Viral images shared on social media platform X, show the towering effigy, part of the traditional ritual of Ravan Dahan, bursting into flames with a massive explosion. Spectators had gathered, phones in hand, to record the event.

However, shortly after it was ignited, there was an unexpected explosion that sent a mushroom-shaped cloud into the sky, similar to a nuclear detonation. The explosion caused panic, causing people in the crowd to jump and run for safety.

Internet users react to the viral video of “Ravan Dahan”

Apart from comparing this explosion to a nuclear test, netizens also offered other responses in the comments section of the video, with one user saying, “Maybe this is the deadliest Ravan Dahan of the year.”

Another netizen stated, “Actually the fire had started somewhere else instead of the stomach, so Ravana got angry and threw a hot gas balloon which made the explosion bigger” .
