VOTE: Best Genre – Nu-Metal vs. Heavy metal?

What do you prefer: nu-metal or heavy metal? It’s as simple as that this week on Chuck’s Fight Club on the Loudwire Nights radio show.

While the question may seem simple, the story is not. Nu-Metal appeared in the mid-to-late 1990s and flourished in the early 2000s. the predominant form of heavy music on the radio. Bands like Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Linkin Park, System of a Down and more rose to fame during the reign of nu-metal and remain as popular as ever today.

It’s a story of evolution much more told for Heavy Metal. Black Sabbath and Deep Purple were among the early pioneers. Judas Priest and Iron Maiden took the torch and ran with it for a period and then various subgenres like thrash metal came to the fore in the 80s with Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth as the ‘Big 4’. Since then, several subgenres have emerged that add to metal’s collective history.

So are you more traditional in your metal sounds or do you like the hip-hop and rap-rock touches that nu-metal brought to the game. As usual, Loudwire Nights host Chuck Armstrong will emcee the battle during Monday’s 8 p.m. broadcast. It will then make individual arguments for both genres on Tuesday and Wednesday at 8pm, while you continue to vote throughout the week. The highest-rated genre will be featured in a rock blog on Friday’s Loudwire Nights airing at 8 p.m.

Just this reminder, Loudwire Nights with Chuck Armstrong airs nightly starting at 7:00 PM ET. You can tune in anytime, anywhere right here or by downloading the Loudwire app.
