The SEC reveals the offensive and defensive players of the week for Week 7

The SEC is starting to take shape on who the aspirants are and who the suitors are. The depth of the conference is starting to show as some of the teams at the bottom of the standings are taking the top teams to the wire.

There were some big individual performances last week and those players received conference recognition. Here’s a look at the SEC Players of the Week for Week 7:

Offensive Player of the Week went to LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier for his performance in the Tigers’ 29-26 overtime win against the Ole Miss Rebels. He threw for 337 yards and 3 touchdowns in the game. He also hit Kyren Lacy on LSU’s first play of overtime to clinch the win. That wasn’t the only national award he received, as he was also named the Reese’s Senior Bowl Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

Nussmeier wasn’t the only LSU player to have a big game — linebacker Whit Weeks was named co-defensive player of the week. Weeks finished with 18 tackles, 2 TFL and 1 sack to help the Tigers slow the high-flying Ole Miss offense.

Weeks joined another star linebacker in Texas’ Anthony Hill. Hill had 11 tackles, 3.5 TFL and 2 sacks in the Longhorns’ 34-3 thrashing of rival Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry.

Vanderbilt was the talk of college football last week after its upset against Alabama, and the Commodores followed that up with a win at Kentucky. Kicker Brock Taylor had a big performance in that game and earned SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors. He made 2 field goals in the game, making 49 and 50 yards.
