Shams Charania reveals when LeBron James and Bronny could make their Lakers debut together

The 2024-25 NBA season is a few weeks away and with it comes the guarantee of history. LeBron James and Bronny James will at some point take the court together for the Los Angeles Lakers and officially become the first father-son duo to play together in NBA history (they already did in the preseason , but these minutes do not count in the record books).

When, exactly, this will happen is not certain. On Thursday, Shams Charania shed some light on that angle in his debut television appearance on ESPN. The insider revealed that the Lakers could put LeBron and Bronny on the floor as soon as the first night of the regular season.

“We’re going to see history very, very soon,” Charania said stand up host Mike Greenberg. “The expectation around the Lakers is that their debut together, the first father-son duo in NBA history to play in a game at the same time, will be as soon as opening night. The 22 “October against the Minnesota Timberwolves at home in Crypto. That’s what they tell me. That’s the plan, that’s the hope.”

It might seem obvious that the Lakers would, but it’s far from certain how often Bronny will play this season. He’s a late second-round pick whose summer league and preseason performances show he’s far from a finished product as a player. Los Angeles is trying to compete in LeBron’s final years and really can’t afford to let Bronny thrive in games the team is trying to win. That includes the season opener against the Wolves, who made a deep playoff run last season.

However, it looks like the Lakers will put Bronny on that floor as soon as possible.
