Kirima disclosed that the Meru MPs supported the motion with the expectation that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki would be the next Deputy Speaker.

However, following Gachagua’s impeachment, Kirima has seen increased interest from various political figures vying for the position.

“We Meru MPs signed this complaint because Kindiki will be appointed as the next DP. But from the moment we signed this complaint, things are not as they were. There is a lot of pressure from societies and tribes. I Am worried because things are not simple.

It should be as it was, number two should replace number one who has been dismissed. When I said Gachagua would not be impeached, I wanted to be remembered… If it wasn’t for Kindiki, I would not have voted for Gachagua,” Kirima stated.

Among those who have taken the stand are National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Council of Governors Chairperson Anne Waiguru, Murang’a Governor , Irungu Kang’ata, and even AUC presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Kirima claims these people have tried to influence Meru MPs to support his vice-presidential aspirations, a role he and others initially believed Kindiki would take on.

The MP expressed dismay at this development, especially in light of President William Ruto’s statement indicating that the next Deputy President of Kenya would be a woman.

In a contrasting argument, he clarified that the impeachment of Gachagua was based on the accusations presented to Parliament, stating that it was not influenced by the head of state.

“I want to insist that there was no time for William Ruto to call us to dismiss Gachagua. These are the charges read in Parliament. We have our brains and our conscience,” he explained.

In defending Kindiki’s promotion, Kirima emphasized that the Interior CS is well acquainted with the issues affecting the county, reducing the need for further explanations on his grievances.
