A massive Game Freak data breach has apparently revealed the Switch 2 codename, future Pokemon games and more.

Pokemon developer Game Freak has been hit by a massive hack, which leaked massive amounts of behind-the-scenes details, including the Switch 2 codename.

As IGN reported, massive amounts of leaked Game Freak data were shared over the weekend in a slightly unprecedented hack of the company. While it was unclear how real any of the leaked content was, it was later found that Game Freak had sent out a statement confirming that a data breach had occurred in August of this year. It appears that not only information has been leaked about many Pokemon games, but 2606 cases of employee details, including current, former and contract staff.

Game Freak also apologized to everyone affected and said that it has already rebuilt and inspected the server that was hacked. The statement makes no mention of leaks about past and future games, but the acknowledgment that a breach occurred would seem to lend more legitimacy to those elements.

One of the most notable aspects of the leak is that the codename for the Nintendo Switch 2, or successor console as the company usually refers to it, is apparently “Ounce.” The codenames for an as-yet-unannounced tenth generation of Pokémon games have also apparently been leaked, and there are mentions of other unannounced Pokémon games as well. Additionally, copious amounts of details, development notes, and concept art have been shared; it goes beyond that too, honestly, there’s too much to mention.

Overall, things have been pretty quiet for The Pokemon this year, having only held a single Pokemon Presents this year in February; this particular showcase revealed Pokemon Legends: ZA, the new entry in the Legends series that takes players into the sixth generation. Kalos region. A Pokemon Present is usually held in August, but this year there wasn’t one.
