The comedian reveals a major career update for the talk show host

It’s a big life change for George López.

The comedian, who starred in his own TV series “George Lopez,” confirmed his retirement from stand-up comedy when asked by talk show host Tamron Hall during his appearance there.

His upcoming special for Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service will be “the last one,” he told Hall in a clip obtained by Deadline and published Thursday. In the clip, Lopez joked that he has “subjected the American people to enough of my shit.”

Now, “it seems like the right time” to make the change, he added.

“It’s been the one thing that’s never left me in my whole life,” Lopez, 63, said of comedy. “It’s a wonderful place to leave it at this particular point.”

The comedian was accompanied by his daughter Mayan, 28, during the announcement. Father and daughter star in NBC comedy Lopez Vs. Lopez.

“I want to spend more time with her,” Lopez said, rubbing Mayan’s shoulder and adding, “I love the show.”

The long-awaited interview is not expected to be released in its entirety until later this month.

The upcoming stand-up comedy special, which has yet to acquire a premiere date, was filmed at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on September 27 and 28 as part of the “ALLLRIIIIGHHTTT! Comedy Tour
