OnePlus 13 equipped with custom Snapdragon SoC was teased to be more expensive than its predecessor

OnePlus is expected to launch its new flagship phone that will feature Qualcomm’s next-generation SoC. While this chipset may not be called Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, a OnePlus employee named Cai Zuxuan recently shared that the OnePlus 13 will have a custom variant of the chip, which is said to outperform the Apple A18 Pro .

The employee said this would see Qualcomm regain its lead and reach the top of the rankings. If this is true, the OnePlus 13 could be a flagship phone worth owning. But what about the price?

OnePlus 13 will cost more than its predecessor

The same OnePlus employee is now hinting at a possible price hike. More specifically, Cai Zuxuan says that the average configuration of OnePlus 13 will cost more than 5,200 CNY. For comparison, the mid-range configuration of the predecessor costs CNY 4,799. For reference, CNY 5,200 is approximately $735, while CNY 4,799 is approximately $678.

This is not the first time that next generation flagship phones are said to be more expensive than their predecessors. Digital Chat Station, a renowned Weibo tipster, has previously hinted that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 smartphones will be more expensive than the current generation flagships.

Even budget Redmi phones with the flagship next-gen SoC are priced higher than their predecessors. So it’s not just the OnePlus 13 that could see a price hike.
Of course, the higher price might be worth it for those waiting for the launch of the OnePlus 13. So far, the company has confirmed that the flagship phone will feature a 2K BOE X2 micro-curved display with thin bezels. It is rumored to feature a triple camera setup on the back with a 3x telephoto sensor.

A recent leak has also suggested that the smartphone will come with an ultrasonic fingerprint reader. This would make unlocking the OnePlus 13 faster, as ultrasound is faster and more reliable than an optical sensor.
