Freezing weather possible in the mountains with cool, dry conditions throughout the week

(PINPOINT TIME) — Good afternoon and happy Sunday Funday! As we wrap up the weekend and head into a new week, we’re tracking not one but two blasts of fall air on their way to the Carolinas. Widespread freezing conditions are possible in the mountains by midweek. But even with the flurries of cool weather, we’re still expecting dry conditions over the next week.

As for tonight and your Monday, mostly clear skies are expected this evening with lows around 60 degrees. Winds will begin to pick up in the mountains as cooler air begins to move in overnight. Cooler temperatures are expected on Monday with highs around 70 degrees along with windy conditions.

Behind the front, we expect even cooler temperatures as we move through the rest of the week as a burst of strengthening autumn air moves through the region Tuesday night with a flurry in the mountains that isn’t quite exclusive Highs for the middle of the week will be in the low to mid 60s and lows in Charlotte will drop into the upper 30s on Wednesday and Thursday.

Even with the blast of cooler temperatures this week, we still expect our streak of dry weather to continue. It has been so dry in the wake of Helene that drought conditions will begin to become possible, especially southeast of Charlotte. In the meantime, brace yourself for some cold temperatures on the way over the next week. Have a good week!
