A GRUMNY pub owner is reluctantly lifting his ban on selling half pints and soft drinks.

John Bittles flatly refused to add fizzy drinks to his menu and any Guinness pours smaller than a full pint about two years ago.

The Belfast-based owner has since changed his ways after reveling in tourists and visitors’ suffering for long enough.

Despite being music to the ears of those who prefer shorter drinks, a half pint will now cost just 85p less than a full pint.

The staggering price of half pints of Bittles in one of the capital’s smaller pubs is £4.95.

And the change of heart is thanks to the influx of cruise ships that dock at the port right next to his small establishment.

John told Metro: “Mostly tourists come for a half pint, so I’ve been thinking what do I need to do to make it worthwhile.”

He added that some decide to just order a whole pint when they realize the cost.

But many are happy to pay half because “they’re not pint people, they’re more half-pint people.”

John previously put up a sign saying ‘No Coke Drinkers’ – with customers being refused a soft drink – before lifting the ban.

However, strict conditions still apply.

Bittles only allows the sale of pop if the buyer is with someone who is ordering an alcoholic beverage.
