When Sonam Kapoor revealed that Salman Khan refused to do 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' with her because of Anil Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor has openly addressed the idea that child stars enjoy unchecked privilege in the film industry. In an old chat, she shared her experiences, stating that she has missed out on many film opportunities because of her father, actor Anil Kapoor.
Sonam recalled a specific incident involving Salman Khan and how he was reluctant to work with her in ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ because of their close friendship. “I lost a lot of films because of my father. Salman Khan didn’t want to do ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ with me. He said, “Anil Kapoor has been my close friend.” How can I stay with your daughter? It was really hard and weird,” she told the Huffington Post.
Sonam also mentioned her relationship with director Farah Khan, who is close friends with her mother. Despite this connection, Sonam noted, “I haven’t done any of Farah’s films, and she doesn’t see me as an actress she would want to play. It’s a different relationship, not a work one.”

Rejecting the stereotype that child stars like herself, Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha have an easy path in the industry, Sonam stressed that many successful actresses today, like Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra, come from outside of the world of cinema. “You’re telling me that Alia Bhatt is where she is because of her family and not because of her talent? Nepotism exists everywhere, but that doesn’t make the journey any easier,” he said.

Reflecting on her own journey, Sonam admitted that it took her a while to shed the perception of being an “entitled brat”. The ‘Khoobsurat’ actress talks about the struggles of living in the shadow of her father’s fame in the film industry. She recalls her determination to succeed on her own, which often frustrated her father, Anil Kapoor. Despite her successes, she resisted accepting help, wanting to carve her own path. Over time, Sonam has come to terms with her background, recognizing her talent and refusing to let outside judgments label her as a privileged ‘silver spoon’ girl. He emphasizes that these judgments are unkind and unfair.
Sonam Kapoor’s next film is ‘Battle for Bittora’, an adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s 2010 novel.
